Temporary intravascular shunting using a carotid shunt for traumatic femoral artery and vein injury in a hemodynamically unstable patient.

Abstract
Vascular trauma involving the peripheral arteries of the extremities can lead to limb loss and, in severe cases, death. The use of intravascular shunts can help to temporarily perfuse the limb, while allowing for resuscitation of a critically injured patient. Here we present a case of a concomitant complex injury of the common femoral artery and common femoral vein, and the complementary vascular strategies used to achieve limb salvage.
