Publication/Presentation Date
2018
Abstract
The geriatric population is increasing. The number of geriatric patients suffering from injury or undergoing emergent surgery is also growing. All of this is occurring without adequate systems in place to meet the need of the complex elderly patient. This chapter addresses the overarching rationale for this book and the impact on the healthcare and trauma systems in response to this growth.
