Abstract

In an attempt to make up for a dearth of literature on deaf adolescents, the author offers a definition of "deafness" and "deaf culture" in the U.S., explains the social roles that people take depending on their audiologic and social characteristics, discusses controversies surrounding American Sign Language, and suggests ways for practitioners to approach and offer services to deaf adolescents.
